Transportation accounts for two-thirds of U.S. oil consumption, and recent gasoline price increases combined with growing environmental concerns have spurred interest in new fuels. A variety of alternatively fueled automobiles - including cars, minivans, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks - now are on the market. Highly advanced, these vehicles are powered by hybrid technology, clean diesel, biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen and compressed natural gas.
AAA believes the U.S. Government should work with the private sector in developing alternative fuel and vehicle programs. Recognizing the need for a balance between mobility and preservation of the environment, AAA supports efforts to improve motor vehicles and alternative motor vehicle technology as a long-term solution. |
